Foundation

We believe that Art and Design is for everyone!

Throughout the year, children in the Foundation Stage are able to explore a range of topics and themes and create Art work using a variety of media. Planning changes weekly, but will encompass a range of projects to enable the children to experience : using chalk & oil pastels, painting, junk modelling, observational drawing, collage, printing, modelling with different materials and much more...

In Foundation the Design Technology curriculum will enable your child to use and explore a variety of materials, tools and techniques, experimenting with colour, design, texture, form and function.  Children will represent their own ideas, thoughts and feelings through design and technology. Children are given many opportunities through their play, independent and focused learning to develop and improve their designing, making and evaluating skills in a variety of contexts including the outdoor environment.

KEY STAGE 1 (Year 1 and Year 2)

Our school uses a variety of teaching and learning styles in art and design lessons, with our principal aim being to develop your child’s knowledge, skills and understanding. We ensure that children have the opportunity to investigate, explore and develop ideas as well as evaluate, revisit and improve their work.

Our pupils are encouraged to produce creative work, exploring their ideas and recording their experiences. Become proficient in drawing, painting, pottery, sculpture and other art, craft and design techniques. Evaluate and analyse creative works using the language of art, craft and design. Know about great artists, craft makers and designers, and understand the historical and cultural development of their art forms.

In our school the study of design technology is valued as a way for children to develop valuable life skills, preparing them for the future. Children are taught specific skills through a variety of projects each term. Skills are re-visited throughout the year to ensure children’s knowledge is secure.
